v WHY THE CHALLENGE - The million tab challenge was developed to show support for the Ronald McDonald House and help area students apply what they learn from the Character Counts program. Tabs are collected, sent to recycling centers, and all money is then sent to the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines. The dollars are used to help operate the house, such as paying for utilities, supplies, and helping to keep costs to a minimum for families staying at the house.
v THE STUDENT'S CHALLENGE - For the past two years, Iowa Falls area students have met the challenge of collecting over 1million pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The 2007/2008 school year brings another exciting opportunity for the students.
v THE STUDENT'S HOW TO - All of the schools are given pop tab collection houses for the students. Remove the tab from beverage cans, soup cans, pet food, etc., and place them in the house. Anyone can help collect them. Ask your family, grandparents, and neighbors. When the house is full, take it to your school and pour them into the school collection barrel. Pop tabs will be taken to the restaurant between September 2007 and May 2008. Totals will be listed on this site. Watch for updates!
v THE STUDENT AND SCHOOL REWARD - The school that collects the most pop tabs per student will win the challenge and be presented with the Traveling Giant Pop Tab Plaque. Ronald McDonald has again expressed his delight in helping celebrate the success the students show. Ronald will be visiting the winning school to show his appreciation.
